Accessibility Guidelines for Water and Sanitation
• The Draft Amendment seeks to amend the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Rules, 2017 (“principal Rules”)
• The Draft Amendment incorporates existing guidelines on accessible and inclusive piped water supply for persons with disabilities into the principal Rules.
• They also cover the accessible standards for community toilets in rural areas, as notified by the Ministry of Jal Shakti under the Rules of Accessibility.
• These guidelines seek to incorporate the universal design approach in providing access to piped water supply and sanitation facilities to persons with disabilities. Addressing these fundamental human needs is vital to ensure the dignity and inclusion of all citizens.
